The second Poronui Passage endurance event was held in late September 2020, with a sell-out crowd riding, running, and walking the various courses. The weather was perfect for the day, with the skies waiting until late that evening to open, forcing some well-needed rest and recuperation (R&R) for our guests the next day.
The team at Poronui were thrilled to host a full house of competitors who stayed and made a weekend of the event. It was the first weekend the lodge was open for the season, and what a way to start!
A big congratulations to Lorna and Kim. It was their first Poronui Passage and it was also the first time the ladies had tried their hand at fly fishing. Guide Dave declared them well on their way to becoming anglers after a day’s tuition on the water and had them hitting the sporting clays like pros, too.
Matt and Helen were return guests, having completed the inaugural event in 2019. They ran the half marathon together in 2020 and will be returning in January 2021 to get married at Blake House. Matt also added on a day’s bowhunting and took home some venison for summer BBQs.
A large group of friends chose Blake House as their base for the event, having loved their previous stays at Poronui; two of them successfully taking home place trophies. They celebrated by relaxing in front of the fires on Sunday as the skies opened, and treated themselves to massages.
Save the date for the Poronui Passage 2021: Saturday 4 December.
